A case study for human decision making and habit creation.

TLDR: Your decisions will determine who and what you become

Hands up if you’ve watched the new Netflix series ‘Living with yourself’ ????????

If you have, great. If you haven’t, great. Keep reading regardless, I’ll do my best to keep spoilers to a minimum.

Long story short, the main character Miles Elliot (Played superbly by paul rudd) undergoes an experimental treatment and manages to clone himself. Creating a ‘new’ improved version of himself which is better in every single way.

The part I found fascinating was the emphasis placed on the impact that even the most simple daily decisions can have.

As the original Miles begins to realise, that the basis of this ‘better and improved’ miles’ is built upon the choices he makes.

What he drinks, eats, how he communicates, his lifestyle, financial and social habits all contribute to create a quite literal better version of himself.

This is something we all intrinsically understand. We know those good decisions = improved quality of life.

However, it is not often reflected in our actions. We tend to miss the forest for the trees and forget about the long term benefits/hindrance of our decisions.

We make decisions based on want rather than need, we make decisions to serve the current version of ourselves rather than the person who we want to become.

We are pleasure monkeys hard-wired to do things that make us feel good, but we ignore the long term effects of these choices we make. Sacrificing our future to feel good now.

It’s simple. Make your choices wisely, or suffer the consequences down the track.

“Someone once told me the definition of hell; on your last day on earth, the person you could have become will meet the person you became.”

What decisions are you making?

Who are you becoming?

If you haven’t seen it, give it a watch. If you have, pay attention to the decisions you’re making today, they’ll affect who you are tomorrow.

Be amazing.
