Wallace’s Weekly Wrap
Happy Friday you wonderful humans.
There are no ordinary moments.
The following dialogue, and that previous quote are from one of my favourite books. ‘The Way of the Peaceful Warrior’ by Dan Millman
Socrates:Where are you?Dan Millman: Here.Socrates: What time is it?Dan Millman: Now.Socrates: What are you?Dan Millman: This moment.
All that truly is, exists within the present moment. At times, we all become anxious about the unknown of the future and saddened by the happenings of the past. But as we know, because we have all been there, this is a difficult place to live. It’s a restless mindset and it doesn’t serve us for long. I believe that one of the ‘secrets’ to a joyful, fulfilling life, is the ability to be present. To have complete and total awareness of where you are and what is going on around you.
When magical things happen, we feel every part of it. Our senses heighten, our emotions flood through and we feel truly alive.
On Monday of this week, at 11:41am, I became a Dad. Little Lucy Jayne Wallace came into the world and changed the course of our lives forever. This was truly a magical moment and each day that has followed has been filled with more and more of these moments. KP has done a magical job over the last 9 months, and if the first week is anything to go by, she is going to be a wonderful Mum.
There was a moment, pictured below, when KP was having a well deserved nap, and Lucy had fallen asleep on my chest. I thought to myself how wonderful the world can be when we appreciate all we have, and all that we are.
Every moment can be ordinary if you let it. Sometimes it takes something external to ourselves to show us the magic. A bird chirping, a wonderful sunset, an act of kindness, or the birth of a child. These things can be few and far between if you aren’t paying attention, but if you really do open your awareness, every moment can be extroadinary.
As you rise with the morning Sun, Think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love. – Marcus Aurelius
Enjoy your ordinary moments. I know I will. They are all extraordinary if we allow them to be.
Wallace
Dan Millman: Life has just three rules?
Socrates: And you already know them…
Dan Millman: Paradox, humour, and change.
Socrates: Paradox…
Dan Millman: Life is a mystery. Don’t waste time trying to figure it out.
Socrates: Humour…
Dan Millman: Keep a sense of humour, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure.
Socrates: Change…
Dan Millman: Know that nothing stays the same.
