Virtus Daily Blog #29 – Integrity

I spoke about my Values in an earlier blog. #21 What are your Values?

Today’s topic is one of those Values: Integrity

Integrity, is doing what you said you would do, when you would do it.

This is one of the simplest, yet hardest to live by values that I have. It’s a constant battle between your best intentions, action, and inaction.

To be honest, It’s probably an area I let myself down in the most. I don’t say I’ll do things just for the sake of it, but it is very easy to over commit to chores, tasks, or major projects. I am slowly working to set myself up for success in this area. To use resources and my own decision making to be able to make better decisions, and to follow through with what I say I’ll do.

Here are 3 things I’m doing to make this value something I live by more often.

  1. Understand what I expect of myself. To aim high, but be realistic of these expectations.

  2. To be aware of what others expect of me. Am i missing these expectations because of my own inaction or biases or are they expecting too much from me?

  3. Stay present, remain in the moment, and acknowledge that if i say I’ll do something and don’t, I’m letting myself and others down. Most of the time it’s better to remove the lag time, and take action straight away. As Seth Godin Says “Soon is not as good as now”

I need to be better, and I will be, good shit takes time.
