Optimism 101

Happy Friday you wonderful humans.

[Commonfolk Coffee, Mornington, next to my ray of sunshine Grant Rodgers]

There are no ordinary moments. With each minute of the day, we have the opportunity to make the best of things for ourselves and everybody around us. Be present in the moment, and feel the overwhelming gratitude for all that we are and all that we have.

You can make the world a better place. You can create highlights for those around you. It’s a choice you can decide to make, a choice that when made can change your world and the world around you.

I’m keeping this email short and sweet because the following quote is so powerful. Read it 2-3 times, highlight your favourite part and embrace the choice you have to improve all that you come in contact with.

Noam Chomsky // “Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, it’s unlikely you will step up and take responsibility for making it so. If you assume that there’s no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, there are opportunities to change things, there’s a chance you may contribute to making a better world. The choice is yours.”

Now if you ask me why I started Virtus, or why I do anything for that matter, I could give you a hundred different answers. Ask anyone why they do what they do and they’ll give you a myriad of reasons. But if you really delve into the why, peel back layers and look to understand the real reason we do anything. There is only really one reason.

To make the world a better place.
