Wallace’s Weekly Wrap
Happy Friday you wonderful humans.
“You are only entitled to the action, never to it’s fruits” // Bhagavad Gita
Today is January the 31st, the year is 2020, and the time is 7:30am.
Today I am sending you my 100th weekly email, and once I hit send I’ll be writing in my daily journal for the 500th time.
Two years ago, in late January I made the decision to cultivate two habits.
1. A weekly correspondance to the Virtus Family in the form of an email. Created with the intention of connecting, educating, and exploring many of the topics that we don’t spend enough time discussing.
2. A daily journalling habit. The intention was to cultivate more self awareness, to give me an outlet to figure out what is going on in my own head. The format was unknown initially, which is why today is day 500, and not day 730, but we will get to that.
Sitting here today over a magic and some corn fritters, I am very appreciative of the time and commitment it has taken to accumulate this body of work. 100 emails and 500 journal entries (along with 101 Podcasts). I’m proud of myself, but the point of this email isn’t to ask for a pat on the back, the point of this email is this.
“You are only entitled to the action, never to it’s fruits”
Just by writing this email, I can’t guarantee people will read it. I can’t guarantee that I will achieve my intentions and connect, educate and open discussion for thoughts and ideas.
Just by writing a daily journal entry, I can’t guarantee any sort of enlightenment or self awareness.
Just by recording a podcast, I can’t guarantee that people will listen, enjoy, share and subscribe.
All I can guarantee is that I will take the action. Put these things out there, and continue to do so.
Nothing is guaranteed, except for the fact that time will pass, and in two years time we will all be able to look back with pride on the actions we have taken, or dissapointment at the things we said we would do, but didn’t.
The person you are is a manifestation of the actions you have taken, or not taken.
It’s your call whether or not you do what you know you should.
Oh, and the journalling thing, It took from January to September of 2018, 9 months of trial and error to work out a system and format that worked for me, one I could find and maintain both consistency and persevere with. One I have continued over 500 days of entries.
Whatever habits you want to cultivate, persevere and be patient. Good things will come.
