Happy Friday Virtus Family.
My role as a coach is pretty simple, it’s to help you get from Point A: Where you are now. To Point B: Where you want to be. The gap in the middle of A and B is where we work at Virtus. This is a place where we get to employ the lessons we have accumulated over the years to prescribe and educate you all on which are the best tools to help you accomplish the things you want to.
I can’t do the work for you, the buck ultimately stops with you. But I can help to shape your path and be there to walk by your side as you encounter and overcome each obstacle along the way.
Assuming you’re putting in the work, this path can become difficult few reasons. Either because you don’t know where you want to be or you don’t know which steps you need to take to get there.
Both of these issues are common, and if properly understood, are relatively simple to fix.
If you resonate with these roadblocks, play along with me and answer the questions for yourselves as I pose them.
First we will begin with the end in mind: Where do you want to be?
The big question: What do you want, that both scares and excites you at the same time?
Now, this is a big question. It’s difficult to answer, but given some time and thought I have no doubt you’ll be able to come up with a high quality, well thought out answer. Remember that the actual answer you end up with isn’t as important as putting something down, as you change, grow and adapt, so will your goals, but creating an outcome that is fuelled by desire, can allow you to begin the journey, the process towards the person you want to become.
Second, we want to identify your starting point: Where are you now?
Understanding the starting point allows for an appropriate diagnosis of where you are at, which informs our decisions on what needs to happen, and allows you the awareness to properly answer the follow up to the big question.
The follow-up: What are two steps to get you closer than you are now?
This question is steeped in process. It’s about identifying the two actions you can take to begin to build momentum and take you slightly closer to where you want to be. As you achieve or accomplish these two steps, the next steps will reveal themselves. Rinse, take action, repeat. Do it often and keep moving forward. Welcome to the process. This is what success looks like under a microscope.
The process takes much longer and is much more difficult than you’d like it to be. It can be frustrating and painstaking and can at times feel like progress has taken a leave of absence. You’ll fail, you’ll fall over and you’ll want to throw in the towel. However, If you stay the course & pick yourself up dust yourself off & carry on. If you maintain a beginners mind and if you continue to show up and do the work, you will achieve what you set out to.
Your goals should be shaped by your desires and supported by your allies. Most of us don’t achieve the things we set out to, because we don’t properly lean on our allies, the people in our lives who support us and can help us on our journey, just as we can help them.
The excitement and brilliance of life comes from helping others to be better, by helping to make the world a better place we are contributing not only to our goals but to those around us who are on similar journeys.
Ultimately, I want to make the world a better place, that’s what drives me, that’s why Virtus exists and that’s what you’re reading this email on this beautiful Friday morning.
If you need help getting from where you are, to where you want to be.
You know where to find us.Onwards

p.s A big chunk of the above is borrowed with pride from The Phys and his ABC Goal Setting, you can watch a video on it here, 33 Minutes of pure wisdom. This conversation was years ago & I still lean on the lessons like it was yesterday.
Also, don’t forget that The Phys is taking bookings at Virtus if you need some TLC, Physio or some life-changing wisdom. If you’d like to get in touch, reply to this email.
