Tell us a little bit (a lot) about yourself:
My Name is Reide Mulholland I am 27 studying exercise sports science at Deakin uni majoring in sports coaching and strength and conditioning, finishing up mid-year 2023. I currently work for Melbourne Victory Football Club working in the pre-academy with prospective players aged 8-14 and have just signed with Heidelberg United Football Club as their U13s JGNPL head coach. I used to work as a lawn mower Monday-Friday and hated it so decided to change my life going to uni 7 years after finishing high school and I have not looked back.
Why did you choose to spend 12 weeks with the Virtus family?
I applied to complete my placement hours for one of my units in 2023 but that is secondary now as after the orientation and first shift I feel this is a place I want to work and now I’m looking to strive to put myself out there and get to know the business, clients and the work and just enjoy myself.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
At the moment the dream job is coaching in the Australian women’s program with the matildas or junior matildas. Coaching development age football full-time is the dream and anything extra is just a bonus.
What motivates you?
The environment I work in is what motivates me, good people with a good attitude. I usually do things that make me feel good and have intrinsic value rather than extrinsic reward. Whilst this doesn’t mean I’ll always work for free but the right environment I forget I’m not getting paid.
What are your strengths as a person and a coach?
Think one of my strengths is my interpersonal skills and my ability to laugh at even the best dad joke. What are your biggest stretches as a person and a coach?
My knowledge of exercises and practical gym experience are some stretches I am still finding my confidence backing my knowledge learnt at uni in a practical environment.
