TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF:
I’m 24 years old, from the Eastern Suburbs currently finishing my final year of my Exercise and Sport Science degree at Deakin University and have been working as a PT for the past 12 months. Growing up I loved all things sport and luckily had some great parents who taxied me around town for different events. I studied physical health at school and loved it, while other things sparked my interest, art and math, sport and exercise was always something I spent my most time with. Out of year 12 I went to TAFE and studied Motorsport Tech. I didn’t like my score after year 12 and kind of fell in a heap after not getting my first few Uni selections and completely changed course, something I still love however quickly realised it was more a hobby and didn’t want to turn it into a career. I found my way back to university and fast forward a few years we’re now here.
A few things came along in between, living overseas in Canada (just outside of Toronto) for 6 months, I caught the travel bug and have been struggling ever since, never enough time and money to adventure. Representing Deakin at University games most years of study and bringing back a gold medal last year was another highlight.
I love being outdoors exploring, hiking and cycling are two things I absolutely love to get out and do just have struggled to prioritise them this year. I waste most Saturdays playing cricket, then spend the next week complaining about it until Saturday comes round and I do it all again. I’ve always loved coaching and this season I’ve moved clubs to coach the U19s at Somerville which will be exciting and a great new challenge.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SPEND 12 WEEKS WITH THE VIRTUS FAMILY?
I wish to expand my knowledge and apply it to a different population group and in a new setting. I’ve always followed the Virtus story from a far, I finally took the chance to surround myself with the amazing people at Virtus and to learn from the best. Further learn and fine tune my coaching style with the help of other great coaches from the industry. Expand my network of likeminded individuals, meet new and exciting people and establish a reputation in the industry to then use when applying or seeking out future jobs.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?
‘When I grow up’ is key there because I’m not sure I ever will! Just a big kid.
I always wanted to be an athlete or sportsperson growing up. Always loved sport and wanted to be an athlete however, not blessed with skills to reach a higher level competition. Based on that I changed my view coming out of high school and looked to help others reach their potential. I love coaching and teaching so would love to help others become better versions of themselves through either profession.
