A couple of thousand years ago Seneca said something along the lines of “While we teach, we learn,”
I think it was Einstein who remarked that “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”
We all want to learn. To grow and expand our consciousness. If you’re taking a few precious minutes out of your day to read this blog, then I can assume that you do indeed want to grow your capacities.
Part of learning is the consumption of information. But this is only part of the puzzle. The other part, is one’s ability to process this information, and pass it on to others.
The ability to teach, is one we all have. Whether or not we utilise this gift is dependant on how we view teaching.
You don’t need to be stood in front of a classroom, or in front of a group of people to teach. You do not even need an audience.
The information I write about on a daily basis does not have to be read by anyone for me to learn and to reassess what I’m learning. Even this particular piece of writing is my way of working through my current level of understanding.
When you begin to teach a concept, it swiftly brings awareness to the gaps in your knowledge and your areas for growth.
The more we learn, the more we can teach. The more we can teach, the more we learn.
Seems like a pretty decent trade-off to me.
Teaching is both a selfish, and selfless act at the same time.
A win – win situation if you will.
The world needs more teachers.
