Virtus Daily Blog #63 – When you’re on top, change.

If you find yourself at the top of the mountain, recently and valiantly ascending to the summit.

The worst thing you can do is stay there.

The air is thinner, the weather is harsher, and at any time you could slip and fall.

By all means take a moment to enjoy the view, appreciate the climb, take in a few breaths of rarified air, but don’t enjoy it for too long.

To quote Robert Frost // “So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay. “

When you’re on top of your game, in sport, business, life, (or climbing mountains for that matter) the worst thing you can do is remain the same.

Complacency and competition will come for you quicker than you can say ‘how good is being on top’

You need to change. Adapt. Evolve.

You don’t need to change who you are, you must transcend your former self with a higher functioning version of yourself.

You don’t cease to become that former version, you both transcend and include your former self, much like the classic Russian nesting dolls.

What got you here, won’t get you there.

Our sole purpose as humans is to evolve.

Look towards the next mountain and prepare for the journey ahead.

Don’t get caught napping at the top.
