We want to celebrate the little wins. Our member spotlight will celebrate the success and progress of one superstar from the Virtus Family each month. Fortunately, this month we have two humans who have been doing wonderful things inside and outside the gym. Second up, Kat.
Name
Kathryn Swanborough
First of all, congratulations, bravo, any words for the camera?
Thank you for choosing me and a BIG thank you to all the amazing coaches at Virtus who have encouraged me along the way.
How has your decision to join Virtus improved your life?
Joining Virtus has really opened my eyes to what holistic and sustainable training is all about. When I started I was a complete gym/weight lifting newbie and could barely lift the 10kg plate. The positive changes I’ve noticed in my self-esteem and attitude as well as my overall strength and confidence both physically and mentally have been the most rewarding things so far. Huge thankyou to both Cam and Mitch who have played a big role in teaching me the basics and helping me come out of my shell.
What do you enjoy most about your training? *
Virtus feels like a second home, where I am supported, accepted and encouraged each time I walk in the door. I love learning new things and working towards small goals and progressing each week. Being surrounded by passionate, knowledgeable people who are all working towards improving themselves always inspires me. It’s always great to train alongside other people who are committed to achieving their goals.
What are the habits that you have adopted that have helped you continue to improve? *
I’ve been more consistent with my training, hitting my ‘minimums’ and following a routine each week. I’ve never been so motivated or excited to train and have noticed big changes to my mindset heading into each day. In the past, my mindset and purpose for training was quite different. It’s no longer something I feel I have to do but something I love and want to do each day.
What helps keep you on track with your goals? *
I keep on track by trying not to compare myself to others and fall into that ‘trap’, but instead working to improve myself. A big one for me is not striving for perfection, but focusing on quality, technique and improvements (no matter how small) each session. Having coaches who accept me and can laugh with me when I make mistakes has really helped me grow in confidence and step outside my comfort zone.
What is one thing you have learnt since joining Virtus that has changed your life? *
Virtus has had such a positive impact on my life, from walking in and not knowing what to do, to now feeling confident and more self-assured. I’ve learnt the importance of investing in myself and that I am more capable than I think. I love implementing these little things into my daily life as well as applying Virtus’ values and training principles into my own gymnastics coaching.
What was your first impression of Virtus Performance? *
Great values and community, high standards and quality people. I first found out about Virtus through social media/merchandise and it caught my eye as quite a unique, fun and different gym. I wanted to get involved and the mentorship was the perfect opportunity. When I first started, I immediately felt accepted and part of the Virtus family.
What are you most excited about achieving in the next few months? *
Over the next few months, I’m working towards making progress with some new power lifts and increasing the number of sessions I train a week. Also adapting and being able to survive my conditioning from Mitch!
What advice would you have for someone thinking of joining the Virtus Family? *
Start now! Virtus is different to any other gym for a good reason. Check it out and go for it! You won’t realise just how much it can positively impact your life!
